Common questions
How do I log a dish?
Tap “Log a dish”, snap a photo of the plate (or pick one from your library), give it a one-tap verdict – Loved it, It was fine, or Never again – and add the restaurant. A dish name and a note are optional. That’s it.
What do the three verdicts mean?
They answer the only question that matters next time: would I order this again? Loved it = order again. It was fine = wouldn’t seek it out. Never again = a mistake to repeat.
Does it work without location?
Yes. Location is optional. With it enabled, Aftertaste can recognise a restaurant you’ve logged before and greet you with your favourites when you return. Without it, Aftertaste is still a full manual dish log – you just add the restaurant by hand.
Why wasn't my restaurant detected automatically?
Auto-detection needs Location access (While Using the App) and a GPS fix. If a place isn’t suggested, you can always type its name – it’s saved for next time. Check Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Aftertaste.
How do I edit or delete a dish?
Open the dish and use the menu (•••) to edit its verdict, note, or name, or to delete it. Deleting a dish also removes its photo from your device.
Does Aftertaste sync between devices or back up to the cloud?
No. Everything is stored only on the device it was created on – there’s no account and no server. If you have iCloud device backup switched on, your Aftertaste data is included in that encrypted backup like any other app’s. Moving to a new phone via an encrypted backup will bring your log with it.
How do I erase all my data?
Go to the You tab → Erase all dishes. This permanently removes every dish, photo, note, and restaurant from your device. Deleting the app also removes all of its data.
What is Aftertaste Pro, and how do I restore it?
Pro is a single one-time purchase (no subscription) that unlocks trips, custom labels, and place covers. If you reinstall or switch devices, open the paywall and tap Restore Purchases to bring Pro back at no charge, using the same Apple ID.
Which permissions does the app ask for, and why?
Camera – to photograph the dish you’re eating. Photos – to pick an existing photo. Location (While Using) – to auto-detect the restaurant and power “you’re back” recall. Each is optional and only used for the purpose above.
What are the device requirements?
Aftertaste requires iPhone or iPad running iOS/iPadOS 17.0 or later.
